Course numbers and additional information are available below:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The courses that are commonly requested this way, for masters students, are:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CSC630<\/strong> (Master\u2019s Independent Study) \u2013 maximum of 3 credits counted towards graduation, and non-thesis students must provide a one-page description to the DGP for approval.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CSC695<\/strong> (Master\u2019s Thesis Research) or <strong>CSC696<\/strong> (Summer Master\u2019s Thesis Research) \u2013 maximum of 6 credits will be counted towards graduation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The courses that are commonly requested this way, for PhD students, are:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>CSC830<\/strong> (Doctoral Independent Study) \u2013 students must provide a one-page description to the DGP for approval.<br>The purpose of CSC830 is to explore research under the direction of a prospective advisor. Taking CSC830 under the direction of the same faculty member in consecutive semesters is not recommended. Students are encouraged to register for CSC890 as a followup to CSC830.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CSC890<\/strong> (Doctoral Preliminary Exam) \u2013 taken before passing the Written Prelim Exam (max of 6 credits counted towards graduation).<br>On rare occasions, a student who completes 6 credits of CSC890 before passing the Written Prelim Exam must register for CSC893 in subsequent semesters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CSC893<\/strong> (Doctoral Supervised Research) \u2013 generally taken after passing the Written Prelim Exam and before passing the Oral Prelim Exam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>CSC895<\/strong> (Doctoral Dissertation Research) and <strong>CSC896<\/strong> (Summer Dissertation Research) \u2013 taken after passing the Oral Prelim Exam.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Do not submit any non-research enrollment requests using <a href=\"https:\/\/webapps.csc.ncsu.edu\/course_pre_registration\/request_non_csc.php\">the electronic form<\/a>. You will be able to process those requests via your MyPack Portal.<\/span><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Guidelines<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who should complete this process?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>If you are a non-CSC graduate degree-seeking student and wish to request a seat in an CSC course, you will need to read this document and submit your request in <a href=\"https:\/\/webapps.csc.ncsu.edu\/course_pre_registration\/request_non_csc.php\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/webapps.csc.ncsu.edu\/course_pre_registration\/request_non_csc.php\">this form<\/a> during the dates listed below.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Directions for Non CSC Students&#8217; Registration Requests<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Graduate degree-seeking students at NC State who are not enrolled in the CSC program and wish to request a seat in an CSC course may do so by submitting <a href=\"https:\/\/webapps.csc.ncsu.edu\/course_pre_registration\/request_non_csc.php\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/webapps.csc.ncsu.edu\/course_pre_registration\/request_non_csc.php\">this form<\/a>.<br>Be sure to include the specific Title and\/or Course Section for any courses that offer multiple sections. Example: CSC 591, section 02 or CSC591-02<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Requests that include ineligible\u00a0CSC courses (as noted above) will be deemed invalid<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All requests must be submitted through the electronic system. No emails, paper copies, in-person, faculty, or phone requests are accepted.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If the Computer Science Program is unable to add the course due to a schedule conflict, credit hour limit, or other restriction, your request will become invalid.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>The CSC Graduate Office will notify you by email whether or not you were granted a seat by the date posted below.<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If you do not receive a seat assignment, you should not contact The CSC Graduate Office or the professor to ask for their assistance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Request for enrollment in CSC courses Current CSC Graduate Students: Guidelines Who should complete this process?
