- COMPUTER SCIENCE guidelines for fall & spring CPT
- Part-time Work: Part-time off campus (<20 hours per week)
Part-time CPTs during the school year are approved if (a) the student is enrolled in no more than 9 credits, and (b) the student’s GPA is at least 3.2. This ensures that academics are the first priority, ahead of employment. Source: https://my.csc.ncsu.edu/dgp/services-info-for-students/cpts/ - Full-time Work: Full-time CPTs during the academic year (essentially involving a leave of absence from school) are unusual,
and require the thesis advisor to certify that the employment is an “integral component” of the student’s thesis. Therefore, CSC students typically CANNOT work full-time during the semester with CPT. - Remote Work: IT is permissible for graduate students to work remotely part-time (20 hours or less per week) during the Fall and Spring semesters. However, you must be enrolled as a full-time student (i.e., have a full course load of academic classes) and then request to work as an intern in addition to being a student. You also must take classes in person at NC State; you cannot take only online classes.
- Combining on-campus jobs and part-time CPT? Information on that scenario can be found here: https://internationalservices.ncsu.edu/faqs-curricular-practical-training/
